Custom Wood Desks and Tables
Custom Walnut Writing Desk
My client encouraged me to push the envelope on this design (thanks Jack!) though I wasn’t entirely sure I was going to be able to build what I had drawn.
A beautiful matched set of black walnut boards and densely figured birds-eye maple were woods of choice, with details in ebony, abalone and mother-of-pearl.
Materials
Black walnut, birds-eye maple, ebony, abalone, mother-of-pearl
Dimensions
72” x 32” x 30”t
Hunters Hall Table
My client expressed a keen appreciation for hand-made craft, specifically hand-made wood furniture, and we enjoyed working closely on this design.
The process resulted in a subtly sculpted top in some pretty, ropey cherry and an asymmetrical base accented with curved, tapered curly maple beading.
Materials
Solid ropey cherry, curly maple
Dimensions
36”l x 9”w x 30”t
Elegant Hallway or Console Table
Hand shaped, subtly sculpted surfaces define this unique hallway table. The top surface gently falls away at either end and restrained shaping of the front lip mirror the curves in the apron below. Tapered, curly maple beading below front apron and along side and back aprons are a nice contrast to the cherry and provide effective detail.
Materials
Figured cherry and curly maple
Dimensions
14” at center, has been built in both 44” and 52” lengths
Hall Table with Black Lacquer and Curly Maple
This table has been built in varying lengths, between 42” and 54”. The curved front apron is typically a clean, uninterrupted surface but has been fit with a shallow drawer on request. The ends and front lip of the top are subtly sculpted.
Materials
Curly maple, black lacquer on solid mahogany
Dimensions
42”l x 15”d x 31”h
Custom Conference Table
A clean, contemporary design for this conference room table. We decided on some very striking Beeswing Eucalyptus veneer for top panels with a solid cherry frame.
Power and data connections are accessible through flush-mount ports at either end of the twtelve foot long table with wire management tracking cables to floor.
Materials
Eucalyptus veneer with ebonized inlay border, solid cherry, and cherry veneer (base)
Dimensions
120” x 46” x 30”
Unique Conference Room Table
The good people at Highland Center for the Arts, in Greensboro Vt., gave me a lot of latitude with this project. The resulting design incorporates a subtly sculpted, highly figured solid cherry table top with a contemporary trestle base of curly maple. The trestle design allows maximum flexibility for seating around the table. I think a similar piece could result in a beautiful and unique custom dining table.
Materials
Solid cherry and soft, curly maple
Dimensions
96” x 44” x 30”
“On Pointe” End Table
This flame birch topped end table was built using cut-offs from the construction of a dining table top, both for the same client.
Extraordinary figure in a board, regardless of species, can transform even a simple design into something special.
Materials
Solid cherry and flame birch
Dimensions
15” x 15” x 22”t
Custom Standing Desk
My client and I worked closely to develop a design that would allow her to do a lot of work in a restricted amount of space. She prefers to work standing, but also wanted to work comfortably when seated, hence the scalloped front apron. The cubby unit is dimensioned to store a notebook, keyboard and attendant cables as necessary. The access door flips up, locks positively at 90 degrees and releases with a touch of a finger while the full extension drawer to the left (with sliding half-depth tray) is intended to absorb some of the flotsam that invariably accumulates in most work areas! Power strip and wire management below work surface keep wires & cables in check. Some very pretty cherry and densely figured birds-eye maple were the materials of choice here.
Materials
Solid cherry and birdseye maple
Dimensions
39”t (work surface) x 46”w x 30”d
"I know I already gushed over the desk, but I have to tell you that we had our pod-mates over this weekend. At one point, all the adults just sat on the couch in my office and waxed poetic about the desk, taking turns to stand up and look at parts close-up. More than a beautiful workspace, it was just something wonderful for us to marvel at during what can be an extraordinarily glum time (Covid, 11/20) So thanks again!"

Vermont Cherry and Curly Maple Trestle Table
I love trestle tables. The design is elegant in its simplicity, easily adapts to almost any custom size and looks great dressed in various hardwoods or hardwood combinations. This particular table is made from Vermont cherry and curly hard maple, a handsome combination and one of my favorites. Trestles “knock down” for easy transport or shipping.
Materials
Solid cherry and figured maple
Dimensions
82” x 38” x 30”, very comfortably seats six, squeezes eight. Built to clients custom size.
Vermont Custom Dining Table with Trestle Base
A simple, traditional design that does so many things well. With no corner legs or aprons to worry about, a trestle base allows freedom of movement around the table and a flexible seating plan. When a crowd shows up, you can usually “cheat” at the corners and squeeze in a couple more! Without significantly changing the look of the table, the design could be modified to comfortably seat ten or scaled down for smaller spaces. This table was built using some amazing, locally sawn “flame” birch for the top and Vermont cherry in the base. Other combinations are certainly a possibility using our beautiful, locally sourced Vermont hardwoods
Materials
Flame birch, solid cherry
Dimensions
72” x 32” x 30”t
Duncan Phyfe Walnut Dining Table
This is an interpretation of a traditional Duncan Phyfe dining table with a birdcage base. The solid walnut in this piece came from a lovely matched set of boards. A nicely figured walnut veneer was used in the apron and base for interest, providing a slight contrast.
Materials
Solid walnut, figured walnut veneer
Dimensions
66″ diameter, extends to accept two 12″ leaves
"Dave, you made our Christmas perfect with the dining room table. We celebrated an early Christmas dinner, here in NH, and having the table here was such a gift. Every day, I love looking into my dining room and admiring the handsome work you did. It completes the house. BTW, I just cleaned off Bills standing desk for the first time and really love all the details you put into it. I don’t think I appreciated it enough. We had friends up who were admiring the table and asking about the desk, I hope you kept the plans!"
